The government sets controls on signboards and light boxes (both horizontal and vertical orientation) which are built on the exterior walls of the building. Any additions must first obtain the consent of the Buildings Department (called “BD submission”) before commence. Otherwise, they will be regarded as "unauthorized building works" which claim to be removed. Besides, the above minor works must be entrusted to the registered contractors who administered by the Buildings Department.

Clearance
Any works involving the construction, repair, demolition, or alteration of buildings must obtain prior approval and consent from the Buildings Department; otherwise, they will be classified as "unauthorized building works (UBWs)." Once reported, the signage faces the risk of mandatory demolition and prosecution. If a removal order is received, it is highly recommended to appoint an authorized registered minor works contractor to dismantle the unauthorized signage or to re-submit a new building plan application for approval.
